Had some fun with one of last year’s sketchbook pieces. I was getting bored with a project last week and just started fooling around, then couldn’t stop – a few hours later my smoking construction worker from Baltimore had life. I really like the loose style painted from the smaller original drawing. I tend to get too detailed and over work a piece when the original drawing is large. Hmmmm, maybe I’ve just learned a lesson!!! :)
Oh, for those of you who do not know the story… I met this construction worker as I was walking to Starbucks in Baltimore last year. They were building a new hi-rise next to my hotel and this gentleman was heading to work after a much needed coffee stop. He gave me a surly glance as I said “good morning” – no doubt needing his morning coffee much more than I did! The three cigarets? That’s not an exaggeration – he had all three lit and shaking like a Chihuahua… oh, yeah, he was sooooo going to get drawn:)
